Ginni
Hogarth has been a self-employed professional musician for 13 years.
Born in South Africa, she studied as a classical pianist from
the age of 7 and started cello at the age of 12.
She also studied ballet, modern, contemporary and tap
dancing.
At
the age of 18, she moved from Cape Town to Johannesburg to further
her studies in dancing and vocal training, as well as to train as a
programmer and assistant sound engineer at Clear Music Recording
Studio in Kensington, Johannesburg.
From
December 1989 to February 1991 she performed mostly as a singer and
dancer in television and theatre shows through which she achieved
nation-wide recognition in South Africa. Simultaneously, she
continued her work in various recording studios as a session
musician, arranger and programmer.
As
a devoted singer/songwriter/performer she decided that she no longer
wished to pursue her career in Broadway-type shows and thus moved
back to Cape Town for six months before heading to England.
Ginni
arrived in England in 1992, initially for one year, to travel and
further her studies in dance. She arrived with £5 and a world
of excitement in her pocket. After a year passed by and many
expectations were shattered, her ticket home had expired. Too
stubborn to plead poverty to family and friends, Ginni focused her
energy on learning to play the guitar, and with a push-start
from a couple of friends, started busking due to seriously needing
the money to pay her way back to South Africa. While busking
on Eton Bridge in Berkshire, she acquired her first paid gig as a
singer/guitarist at the Hogs Head in Eton in August 1993 by the
landlord at the time who heard her on the bridge. This opened
many opportunities for her to perform in venues all over the Thames
Valley area.
She
has also been performing as a pianist/singer in venues such as The
Ramada Hotel; The Marriott; The Holiday Inn; The Moat House;
Jeromes of The Thames Riviera Hotel, as well as private and
corporate functions.
Simultaneously,
she had been performing with her duo, Speakeasy, which
developed in 1994 with her partner at the time, Keith James.
They started their own Recording Studio, The Dream of Oswald, in
1995. There, they completed their debut CD, Quirk!, which was
released in October 1997 and has sold well throughout their gig
circuit and had acquired interest from a very well-known
distribution company.
Unfortunately,
Speakeasy split in December 1999. Since then, Ginni has been
focusing on her solo career as a singer/guitarist/pianist and
performer. Her debut solo CD, Between These Walls, is due for
release on Tuesday 5 June 2001 at The Bier Keller, Coppid Beach
Hotel, Bracknell, Berkshire; hosted by Unplugged &
Intimate. Ginni hopes to acquire a management/record deal
through this album.
Ginni
has now been in England for almost 9 years. She has been back to
South Africa twice, but is now, ironically, settled in England.
Ginni
is very devoted to her work and passionate about performing in
public.
