A night dedicated to female artists
thank heavens for the Bier
Kellar! The guys who promoted
this event informed us that out of all the artists who came forward
to play here, only 10% were female. A real shame I think, as the
ladies here tonight proved there is talent out there.
Included
in the line-up was KD Lang look-a-like Ginny. This lady oozes
charisma, playing meaningful songs that she writes herself and
displays a wonderful stage presence. Originally from South Africa,
she has a twang to her accent that actually reminds me of Sinead
OConnor. Unafraid of her audience, which is in close proximity at
the Bier Kellar, she stamps her feet and jerks her guitar around as
she plays. Ginny projects attitude and is obviously passionate about
what she is saying. Apparently this gig was a one-off for her, but
lets hope it has given her a taste for it.
Girl
singer from Travis Shorts almost took the roof off with her lungs.
She is powerful, soulful and her harmonies impeccable. I would love
to hear her sing soul or more funky stuff Gwen Macrae or Aretha
Franklin style maybe. To be honest though, I believe that this
gifted young woman could sing in any style she chooses and do it
well. One of their songs in the set, a bit disjointed from the
others, sounded very much like an Andrew Lloyd-Webber number.
Nevertheless it was delivered with the strength and quality fitting
for any West End Stage, and I hardly heard her take a breath.
