Poptoys, at 21 South Street, presents bands of all musical
types. On 14 February the show included three highly talented rock
bands - Lazywall, Obiat and Yankee Nine Niner.
Lazywalls creative sound gave a strong impulse to the heart rate.
However, although their music created a great feeling of understanding, the
lead vocalists clumsy attempt at moving to the music brought unintended
humour to the atmosphere, and some of the imaginative lyrics would be lost
to the hard of hearing. The guitarists really held the band together.
If you like rock, then youll relate to this bands music.
Obiat displayed a more invigorating heavy rock image, with regular head
banging and the use of a megaphone - but the loudness emphasized the lyrics.
They had a sure talent for performing heavy (but not too heavy) metal.
This band is for you if you enjoy this style and go in for head banging.
But Poptoys had saved the best till last. The lead vocalist Henry
Rundell of Yankee Nine Niner made it his responsibility to get the audience
into action. The band seemed to put a trance on some of the audience,
not only by their music but also with their intense choreography, black
lycra trousers, and flirty encouragement of physical interaction. The
room was left in a frenzy.
The whole evening was full of talent, rhythm and fun, really getting your
pulse going in some areas. If you feel like a change and want to be
influenced by a new generation of music, then Poptoys is the place to go.
