Six Nation State - Where Are You Now single review

|
Six
Nation State's
last single 'Fire' was a really high tempo blast of songs
that really showcased their live energy. This latest offering
shows how they've progressed in terms of their songwriting over
the last year or so.
The single 'Where Are You Now' still has the Six Nation
State trademark of being an upbeat catchy song about a sad
subject but it's just that bit more complex without losing the
pop edge. The song opens with Gerry singing solo, "And it feels
so right, and it feels so wrong" the rest of the band gradually
join in singing the harmonies one by one. You know the classic
Queen video where you just see the band members faces and they
come in and out of focus? I think it's the musical equivalent of
that. At least in my head I see their faces appear as they start
singing. I've got a feeling this song is about the girl who used
to sing with Six Nation State back in the early days and the
success they've achieved since then. Whoever it's about it's a
very bittersweet tale and the emotion comes across which great
and sadly quite unusual these days.
B-Sides are 'Hide Yourself Away' a very short slower and more
melancholy offering and 'Just Don't Know' which to me has strong
country influences and a guitar line and sound straight out of
The Shadows.
It's another strong single from the boys and the three songs
work together as a package. I can't wait for the album.
'Where Are you Now' out 26 March 2007 on Jeepster. Six Nation
State currently on tour, see their website for dates.
